Experience Dalmatian music on an Adriatic cruise
Adriatic cruise guests visiting Sibenik this summer will be offered an insight into local culture. The historic coastal city will host celebrations of local music, officially known as Evenings of Dalmatian Chanson, on August 19th and 20th.
Introducing the event, the Croatian National Tourist Board described the music associated with the region as "one of the trademarks of the Adriatic Sea", which serves as a reminder of "waves hitting the rocks, the sun that burns our skin and crickets tirelessly chirping their symphony of relaxation".
"To Dalmatian people, the song is a symbol of life, their history and tradition," the organisation added.
People planning Croatia holidays can visit Sibenik this month to hear the sound of a 'klapa', or harmony singing group, in the city's scenic surroundings.
The Evenings of Dalmatian Chanson festival was established to mark the 700th anniversary of the abbey that shares the city's name.
Sibenik is one of the ports of call on an Adriatic cruise itinerary that starts and finishes in Split, taking in the Krka waterfalls, Kornati, Zadar and other destinations along the way.
