Croatia cruises: Stop off in Split for Days of Diocletian

Croatia cruise guests visiting Split this month can experience the Days of Diocletian festival.

The highly popular annual tradition will return to the coastal city from August 19th to 22nd.

Local residents and visitors join in with the festivities to celebrate Split's rich history by dressing and acting in a way that harks back to centuries gone by.

The streets around Diocletian's Palace - an ancient Roman monument that travellers can see during Croatia cruises - will be filled with people wearing togas and tunics, while the waterfront will provide the setting for a grand procession.

Visitors can gather along the route to see an actor playing Emperor Diocletian and his entourage pass by on the way to the Peristyle, where he will address the crowd.

As well as taking in the memorable sights, holidaymakers stopping off in Split during sailing holidays in Croatia will have opportunities to sample a range of tasty Mediterranean dishes being served up along narrow streets and in bustling squares.
