Village offers record-breaking truffles alongside Croatia holiday

Village offers record-breaking truffles alongside Croatia holiday The Istrian village of Livade is to host a Croatia tour of a different kind this month, as truffle enthusiasts descend on the region for Tuberfest.

The festival is held across three Sundays in October and celebrates the locally grown white truffles that the Istria region of Croatia is famous for.

An article by the Daily Mail this summer outlined truffles, alongside opportunities to cycle Croatia, as one of the "six things you must do…in Croatia."

"This is prime truffle country: try them in omelettes or mixed into wild boar croquettes," the article recommends.

Tuberfest represents the perfect opportunity to do exactly this, with tourists given the opportunity to see how ingredients are sourced, as well as attending special truffle auctions.

Amateur truffle huntersare also welcome during the festival, with some astonishing truffle finds previously seen at Tuberfest.

The most famous truffle finds of all time came from nearby too, when local caterer Giancarlo Zigante and his dog dug up a truffle weighing 1.31 kg back in 1999, setting a new world record.

Since then, the truffle has been immortalized in bronze for people to enjoy at Zigante's restaurant.

Tuberfest begins next weekend.
