Pula Superiorum invites travellers to go Roman on a Croatia holiday

Pula Superiorum invites travellers to go Roman on a Croatia holiday Pula may be synonymous with sailing holidays in Croatia, but for one special weekend the town becomes awash with all things Roman.

Located along the northern region of Croatia's iconic west coastline, Pula has always enjoyed its status as a port city, with Adriatic cruises being a popular pastime for anyone travelling to the region.

It is a status that dates back centuries with the city previously used as part of an important trade route for the Romans back in 177 BC, and the likes of Julius Caesar believed to have held Pula in high regard.

Many remnants of that Roman rule remain today in all their glory too, from the detailed floor mosaics that survived the bombing of World War II right through to the grandiose Temple of Augustus which was first constructed between the years 2BCE and 14CE as a tribute to the goddess Roma and then Emperor Augustus.

However, for anyone eager to truly soak up the ancient culture of this Balkan paradise, a visit in early June may provide the best time for a Croatia holiday.

That is because from the 7th until the 9th, Pula will be transformed into a city-wide celebration of all things Roman.

Dubbed the Pula Superiorum, this unique weekend will see locals exchange their normal clothes for togas, with visitors invited to follow suit.

A feast for the eyes will be provided all around you, with detailed mosaics produced specifically for the weekend on sale alongside jewellery of the time at special market areas, where street performers will also recreate the popular entertainment from this fascinating era.

But for arguably the highlight of the weekend, holidaymakers are advised to head down to Pula's ampitheater, where they will be invited to watch recreations of the spectacular gladiator fights associated with the period, from a great viewpoint within the arena itself.

It could provide the perfect way to wile away the hours on a Balkans holiday and with plenty of Croatia sailing tours on offer too, you could soon be on your way to a memorable trip.ADNFCR-2466-ID-801353473-ADNFCR
