Croatia Open Tennis Tournament set for Umag

This summer’s ATP Croatia Open Tennis tournament could serve up the kind of great sport and stunning surroundings to put even the likes of Wimbledon in the shade.

With just 30 days to go until the start of the ever-popular British lawn tennis tournament in SW19, fans across the country are not del doubt already gearing up for another two weeks of Murray mania, as we pin our hopes of success on the shoulders of the young Scot.

But while the two weeks may come too soon for some, there could be a unique alternative available for anyone looking to combine their enjoyment of the sport with a Croatia holiday.

This comes courtesy of the 23rd edition of the Croatian ATP Tennis tournament.

Scheduled to run from June 5th to 15th, the event will see some of the biggest names in Croatian tennis descend on the popular Adriatic cruise destination of Umag.

Among those players already scheduled to attend are the underrated star Marin Cilic and the giant Ivo Karlovic.

Held in the this idyllic setting of Umag, the event is as much a treat for the visiting crowds as it is for the players themselves.

Speaking recently about the Croatian open, Karlovic said: "Playing in Umag is always a special pleasure for Croatian tennis players. Domestic audience, domestic atmosphere, top-class tournament.”

With plenty of opportunities to explore the Adriatic, it also serves as the ideal destination for anyone seeking sailing holidays in Croatia, with the tournament meanwhile promising to bring a unique party atmosphere that not even the likes of Wimbledon can compete with.

This comes courtesy of the Istria Gourmet Festival, which will be running throughout the event.

Here, travellers will be invited to enjoy the produce of the best Istrian restaurants, winemakers and olive growers of the region, as part of a special nine hour programme scheduled for each day of the event.
