Truffles advice for Croatia sailing holidays

Truffles advice for Croatia sailing holidays Autumn is the time to head on a Croatia sailing holiday if you consider yourself to be a foodie.

The country prides itself on its magnificent truffles and each year, between September and November, celebrates the Days of Truffles festival.

Running until November 14th, the event sees the Istria area - which is particularly famous for its truffles - showcase its many flavours and styles of the fungus.

However, while visitors are encouraged to sample the delicacy during their visit, it should be pointed out that there are rules to be adhered to when it comes to taking some home for family and friends.

According to the Croatian Times, one Austrian man recently found himself on the wrong side of these regulations after paying €60 (£53.56) for 130g of the foodstuff.

Anyone exporting any quantity of the mushroom-like food must report it to Croatian officials, which the 44-year-old failed to do.

After trying to cross the border into Slovenia, the man was ordered to attend a hearing, where he was later fined €170.ADNFCR-2466-ID-800154605-ADNFCR
