Zadar ready for world sailing championships
Holidaymakers taking Adriatic cruises this week might catch a glimpse of an international sailing event taking place in Croatia.The 41st ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship kicks off on Saturday (July 9th) in Zadar.
Almost 350 sailors will test their skills on the waters off Croatia's coastline and Brits enjoying a relaxed boating holiday might wish to take some time out to check out the racing action.
According to the ISAF, event director Zrinka Grancaric has been hard at work for four year to prepare for the event.
"Everybody is set and everybody is ready," she explained. "We've worked really hard and [been] really diligent. It is a big challenge but I think we are up for it."
Ms Grancaric added that there are lots of volunteers who have kindly given up their free time to help make the championship possible.
She said that when the first race begins, these people will be able to smile knowing they helped make it happen.
A total of 12 races will take place over six days, meaning holidaymakers will have pleanty of opportunity to check out the action.
Zadar has approximately 75,000 residents and is the capital of the region of the same name.
