Rijeka stadium offers sights and soccer for a Croatia Holiday

The Stadion Kantrida, in the city of Rijeka, has won praise for the "visual beauty" it offers tourists and football fans visiting as part of a Croatia holiday.

American news agency CNN named the Croatian stadium as one of the top ten most unusual football venues in the world this week.

CNN singled out the ground as a venue of natural beauty and the ideal stop-off for one of the many Croatia tours in the region, whether a sightseer or soccer fan.

According to the news agency, the Stadion Kantrida is "perfectly formed" offering "visual beauty" with a stunning cliff face making up part of the ground.

Croatia cruise seekers may also be interested to note that the ground is "perched alongside the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea”.

With Croatia tours travelling through the city of Rijeka, the Stadion Kantrida is the perfect place for sporting action or even an Adriatic cruise of the coastline.

The ground represents an important venue for the national team too, with CNN noting: "The setting is so beautiful that since 1990 it has hosted some of Croatia's home international matches."

A Croatia holiday to Rijeka this summer could also see visitors witness the likes of Luka Modric and Ivan Klasnic playing in the city as part of the national team's potential preparations for the European Championships.

First off though, Croatia have to qualify, with a crucial play-off against Turkey coming this weekend.
