Naomi Watts spotted filming on Adriatic coast

Popular Australian actress Naomi Watts has reportedly been enjoying a Croatia holiday of sorts while filming for her latest role on the Adriatic coast.

The Hollywood star has been working in the west coast town of Opatija, in the Gulf of Kvarner, on a controversial new film, set for release early next year.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, ‘Caught in Flight’ tells the story of the last two years of Princess Diana’s life and her relationship with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan.

Watts is set to step into the role of the Queen of Hearts, while former Lost star Naveen Andrews will take on the role of Khan, with the pair now filming scenes on the Croatian coast.

However the production has already garnered some criticism from fans of Lady Di, with the plot set to focus on the theory that the Pakistani doctor was the real love of Diana’s life, rather than Dodi Fayed.

Watts is likely to be thick-skinned to any bad press though, having worked on other controversial productions like Mulholland Drive and 21 Grams in the past.

And the opportunity to enjoy the warm Mediterranean temperatures and cool blue waters of the nearby Adriatic may also soothe any potential worries shared by those working on the production.

The Australian star could also be tempted to head to Rijeka, which lies north east of Opatija and remains one of the most popular ports of call for anyone on a Croatia holiday.

With a wealth of local sights and fine dining options to enjoy alongside gorgeous sandy beaches and a variety of top bars and nightspots, it is not one to be missed.

More importantly, the nearby coastline also means plenty of opportunities for a Croatia cruise to one of the many hundreds of islands lying off its west coast.

With low-cost flights available throughout the next few months, you won’t have to be a Hollywood A-lister to afford a Croatia holiday.
