North-east residents can 'soak up some sun' on Croatia holidays
People based in north-east England have been given the opportunity to take Croatia sailing holidays and other breaks in the country this summer following the launch of flights from Newcastle to Split by Jet2.Chris Sanders, head of airline development at Newcastle, told the Journal that the airport was "delighted" to see the new flights to Split on its departure boards, giving travellers the chance to "soak up some sun in Croatia".
Some 115,000 passengers travel to or from 80 destinations from the north-east gateway every week.
Mr Sanders said: "Despite the economic gloom, an overseas holiday is still highly valued by the north-east public.
"Newcastle airport has been working harder than ever to ensure our passengers continue to enjoy a wide choice of destinations for their 2009 holiday."
Travellers planning Croatia sailing holidays can also fly to Dubrovnik with Jet2 from Leeds Bradford and Belfast airports.
Adriatic cruises provide the option of combining coastal destinations like Split and Dubrovnik with island hotspots such as Korcula and Makarska.
