Croatia holidays recommended by travel experts

Travel experts have touted Croatia holidays as a good option for Britons' summer vacation this year.

A panel of advisors from STA Travel answered questions on holiday programmes from readers of the Guardian.

When asked to recommend something different from the "obvious" destinations in Europe, one of the firm's representatives suggested Croatia sailing holidays.

Jemma, from the Liverpool branch of STA Travel, explained that this is because the country is easily accessible from the UK.

"I would recommend a flight to Split with a possible stay in Trogir which is becoming more popular but not as busy as Dubrovnik," she said.

"Or how about a sailing trip around the Croatian islands? These include Mijet, Korcula, Hvar and Bol. You will enjoy crusing on a vintage sailing ship, swim in the waters off Golden Cape Beach and enjoy fresh seafood on Brac."

There are several flights from the UK to leading destinations in Croatia, including Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik.
