Croatia holidays: Keira Knightley to film in Opatija

Travellers taking Croatia sailing holidays will not be the only ones spending time in Opatija this year, with Keira Knightley set to visit the destination to film scenes for a new movie, according to reports.

The actress is set to play one of the lead roles in The Beautiful and the Damned, a film about the life of Francis Scott Fitzgerald, the celebrated American author whose works are evocative of the Jazz Age.

Knightley will reportedly play Zelda, the wife of the main character, while Leonardo DiCaprio could fill the central role.

The production is also expected to include some filming in Zagreb, another popular destination for Croatia holidays.

Knightley is one of the most successful British movie stars of recent times, having appeared in hit films such as Atonement, Pride & Prejudice and the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Opatija serves as the starting point for a Croatia sailing holiday route that includes stops in Krk, Rab, Zadar and other destinations.
