Croatia sailing holiday can be full of unexpected treasures

Croatia sailing holiday can be full of unexpected treasures Travellers on a Croatia sailing holiday should consider diving in the Adriatic, according to tourism experts.

In this week's Tourism review, the country is described as a major destination for adventurous divers.

The Dalmatian coast is particularly popular, as it has two major wrecks.

Those wanting to take part in an exploration should first consider going along to Vis, which is one of four "underwater zones" that each contain 35 sites, according the Croatia National Tourist Board.

Divers in Split can see the cargo ship Teti, which is still upright.

The organisation also recommends the minelayer Ursus, which is near Hvar.

Dubrovnik has plenty of reefs as well, which could be very attractive to divers.

According to the board, there are around 400 archaeological sites of interest in the Adriatic Sea.

These attract upwards of 150,000 divers to the region annually.

After diving, travellers on a Croatia holiday might want to see some more conventionally historical sites, such as Dubrovnik's walled city and Split's famed Roman palace.
