Croatia activity holiday 'just the ticket for sporty families'

A Croatia holiday involving either sailing or cycling could appeal to the 40 per cent of families going on a 'Playcation' this summer.

Comparison site Gocompare.com has found that one in four families is dropping the traditional beach holiday in favour of 'activity' trips.

More than half (56 per cent) of those want it to be main family holiday, while 44 per cent consider a sporty holiday to be a second choice.

They may become even more popular as parents look for ways to get their children active.

Croatia could be the perfect destination for families, as it is ideal for all three of the most popular holiday activities named by the poll's respondents.

These were swimming, walking and cycling.

A Croatia cycling holiday could be a unique way of seeing the country.

Thirteen per cent of families were planning to go climbing, while 11 per cent were considering a sailing holiday.

Commenting on the new fashion, Mark Greening, head of partner products at the price comparison site, said it was positive, but families needed to make sure they booked with "a reputable holiday company" to get the most from their holiday.
