Savour Istria's truffles on a Croatia holiday
People with a taste for good food can pay a visit to Istria during a Croatia holiday to sample some of the region's truffles, which are something of a local specialty. The Croatian National Tourist Board describes truffles as the "gourmet crown jewel of Istria".
Truffles develop underground and are a highly prized foodstuff, featuring prominently in French, Spanish and Italian cuisine.
People planning to visit Istria during a Croatia holiday in the autumn truffle season - which runs roughly from September 11th to mid-November - will have plenty of opportunities to sample the delicacy, with various eateries showing off their signature dishes and unique combinations of flavours.
Istria is located between the Gulf of Trieste and the Bay of Kvarner and is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea.
Travellers can explore the region before embarking on a Croatia sailing trip from the northern port of Opatija and visiting destinations such as Krk, Rab and Zadar.
