The New Year Spear Fishing Championship will take place on December 29th and 30th 2010, according to the Croatian National Tourist Board.

Comprising two separate contests - the New Year Cities Cup and European Nations Cup - the event provides an opportunity for locals and visitors alike to witness and celebrate the art of spear fishing.

People planning to visit Losinj during an Adriatic cruise can see a monument to a spear fisherman in one of the island's town squares, which stands as a symbol of the importance that the local community attaches to this particular pursuit.
