Croatia holidays: Budget carriers 'important for Croatia'
Budget airlines are playing an increasingly important role in the Croatian tourism sector, an expert has revealed.Tonci Peovic, director of Zagreb airport, said that the contribution of low-cost carriers such as easyJet to revenues at the country's air travel hubs is on the rise, the Croatian Times reports, citing daily newspaper Vecernji List.
Budget operators' contribution to income at Split and Dubrovnik airports - both of which are highly popular destinations for Adriatic cruises and other Croatia holidays - has increased by 25 and 30 per cent respectively, Mr Peovic stated.
He was speaking after critics warned that low-cost carriers were posing a risk to Croatia Airlines by presenting tough competition on routes already served by the national carrier.
Travellers setting off on a Croatiaholiday from the UK can fly to Split or Dubrovnik from London Gatwick, Stansted, Bristol and other airports.
Those who choose Adriatic cruises can see the country's big cities before sailing on to idyllic islands and picturesque coastal villages.
