Adriatic cruises: Temple remains found on Krk

Adriatic cruises: Temple remains found on Krk Travellers visiting Krk during an Adriatic cruise could soon have a new attraction to visit.

A Croatian family has discovered the remains of a temple that was built to honour the Roman goddess Venus, the Croatian Times reports, citing daily newspaper Jutarnji List.

The Rist family came across the remnants of the structure while trying to refurbish a building in the heart of Krk's main town, which shares the island's name.

Experts have dated the temple to the first century before the birth of Christ and speculated that it was probably destroyed in the civil war between Pompey and Julius Caesar.

A glass structure is set to be installed around the remains, allowing visitors to come and see the significant archaeological find during Croatia holidays.

One Adriatic cruise route begins in Opatija and visits the island of Krk before heading to scenic destinations such as Rab, Zadar, Losinj and Cres before returning to the departure port.ADNFCR-2466-ID-800417324-ADNFCR
