Discover Rab's royal connection on a Croatia holiday

Travellers visiting Rab during a Croatia holiday can discover the island's link to the British royal family.

The Daily Mail describes Rab as a "rising corner of Croatia" that has a "curious (and mildly scandalous) royal connection".

It was one of the destinations visited by the controversial British monarch Edward VIII in 1936 during a voyage around the Mediterranean with his married lover Wallace Simpson.

Interest in this aspect of Rab's past could be boosted by the Oscar-winning, critically acclaimed film The King's Speech, which stars Guy Pearce as Edward VIII.

According to the Daily Mail, the island's associations with the contentious former king do not make it any less alluring.

The newspaper highlights a number of attractions that could interest travellers planning Croatia holidays this year, including "long glorious beaches" and medieval churches.
