Croatia holiday island 'could welcome royal couple'

Croatia holiday island could welcome royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton could enjoy a post-wedding Croatia holiday this year, according to reports.

Tourism minister Damir Bajs has welcomed speculation that the royal couple could pay a visit to Rab, the island that welcomed King Edward VIII and his lover Wallace Simpson in 1936, reports the Croatian Times.

Mr Bajs said it "would be great" if William and Kate accepted the invitation to come to Rab and pointed out that Croatia holidays have recently enjoyed a profile boost in the UK.

"It is great … even to mention Rab in this context," said Mr Bajs.

"The story has emerged since we have had an increased number of British tourists visiting Croatia in the last two years. The invitation to the royal couple should stay open."

Travellers interested in visiting Rab themselves can embark on an Adriatic cruise from Opatija, a trip that also provides the opportunity to see destinations such as Krk, Zadar and Losinj.ADNFCR-2466-ID-800473438-ADNFCR
