Visit Zadar's monastery on a Croatia sailing holiday

Visit Zadars monastery on a Croatia sailing holiday People visiting Zadar during Croatia sailing holidays have been invited to see a monastery in the city.

According to the local tourist board, the Franciscan monastery dedicated to St Francis of Assisi is one of the destination's highlights.

Visitors can look out for some of the sacred art and artefacts on display at the site, including a large Romanesque painted crucifix from the 12th century and a painting of Christ by Jacopo da Ponte Bassano.

Travellers heading to Zadar during Adriatic cruises can also see a large Renaissance crucifix that dates back to the 15th century, ancient liturgical vessels and other valuable items at the monastery.

The building is thought to be the oldest Gothic church in Dalmatia, having been built around 1221 and consecrated in 1882.

Sailing holidays in Croatia provide the opportunity to visit Zadar as the fourth port of call on an itinerary that begins in Opatija and also visits Krk, Rab, Losinj and other destinations.ADNFCR-2466-ID-800528949-ADNFCR
