Read up on tipping culture ahead of Croatia holidays

Read up on tipping culture ahead of Croatia holidays Reading up on tipping cultures in Croatia may be a good idea before embarking on a holiday in the Mediterranean country.

New research from International Currency Exchange (ICE) shows that nine in ten travellers feel confused about how much to tip for services abroad.

Ignorance of local etiquette has left around two thirds of tourists over-tipping at some point during their holidays.

Others may have left a restaurant or got out of a taxi without leaving a tip, which could be seen as extremely impolite in some cultures.

Joanna Williams, head of marketing at ICE, explained that tipping expectations vary from country to country.

It is therefore a good idea to do a little research prior to your holiday so that you can budget accordingly, she said.

According to ICE, it is customary to tip around ten per cent of the bill for restaurant meals and similar services in Croatia.

However, some establishments may add service charges to the bill, while on toursand excursions, tips may be expected.

Speaking to other travellers about their Croatia holidays could give tourists a good idea of what to tip.
