Unforgettable!

We loved the hiking cruise! You could swim and walk everyday, and we saw islands/ parts of Croatia we never would have visited otherwise. Everyone on the boat was great. We were recommended by friends, and we will continue to highly recommend too! Thanks Sail Croatia

Amanda, September 2023
Exceptional and unforgettable!

My trip with Sail Croatia was a wonderful adventure. The hikes in Croatia were nothing short of spectacular, with breathtaking views and diverse terrain. The camaraderie among fellow travelers added an extra layer of enjoyment to the trip, and I made lasting friendships along the way. This sailing and hiking adventure exceeded my expectations. It's a perfect escape for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I'm already dreaming of my next journey with this outstanding team.

Split is known for its beaches and the fortresslike complex at its center, Diocletian's Palace, erected by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century. Check-in is from 10.30am to 12.00pm (midday). Please note your cabin may not be ready until 12:30pm. Your ship will depart the harbour at 1pm sharp.

Please Note: Our Captains work hard to provide the best possible experience based on weather and port conditions. Our aim is to make sure you have an amazing week on your Sail Croatia cruise! In light of this, the itinerary and port locations may need to change during the week.

It has a deserved reputation for producing extremely good food and wine, and the restaurants offer the freshest fish in the Adriatic.

Vis has been used over the centuries as a strategic military port and saw action by the Allied military through WWII against Italy and Germany, creating a fascinating military history. Today it is an idyllic island showcasing a traditional and authentic way of life.

We catch our breath and enjoy the view before heading back to Stari Grad.

Hike FAQ'S

What are Hike Croatia Cruises?

Hike Croatia Cruises combine the best of hiking, exploring and socialising on a 7 day cruise! These cruises are perfect for those who prefer to be active and enjoy a challenging, yet rewarding holiday experience! Alongside our Cycle Croatia Cruises, Hike Croatia Cruises provide an active and exciting way to explore the Croatian archipelago.

What time do cruises start/finish?

Ships depart the harbour at 13:00 on Saturdays and will return on Friday night. You will disembark after an early breakfast on the Saturday morning between 8am and 9am. Detailed directions to the marina will be emailed to you when you book your tour. If you’re unable to make it to check-in on time, you can easily catch up with your ship at your first destination. Please see FAQ: What if I can’t make the check-in time?

What if I can’t make the check-in time?

If you’re unable to arrive at your departure point for check-in, it’s easy to catch up with your ship at your first destination. If you're joining the Split Return South Route, first night will be spent on the island of Solta, which is easily accessible from Split via ferry (1 hour & 15 minutes). There are two ferries servicing Solta and you can find ferry timetables online here and here. If you are joining the Dubrovnik Return Route, your first destination will be Sipan, which is accessible via ferry (1.5 hours). If you need assistance planning your arrival, a member of our Sales Team will be happy to help you connect the dots! We are able to provide land based transfers if required, or our Operations Team are also able to assist you on the ground with logistics.

What is the minimum age onboard a Hike Cruise?

The minimum age we accept onboard our Hike Cruise is 14. We recommend young hikers are keen walkers with experience hiking on gravel paths and trails as there are some challenging routes.

How challenging are the routes?

We recommend you have a reasonable level of fitness to participate in our Hike Croatia Cruises. Each day’s itinerary brings a different challenge, and your guide will cater to your group’s interests and abilities. If you don’t feel up to hiking, or feel a particular day may be too strenuous, you’re welcome to spend the day swimming or relaxing on the ship.

What are the cabin arrangements?

Cabins are based on 2 sharing, and consist of twin beds, bunk beds or one double bed. If you’d prefer a certain cabin type, it is important you let us know this upon booking, so we are aware and will note your preference. Our ship allocation is finalised a week before departure, so we are unable to 100% guarantee a twin bed or double bed cabin. This is due to the fact that each of our ships have completely unique cabin configurations (and therefore always consist of a different number of twin and double cabins available onboard). We will do our best to accommodate preferences based on those who book first, however we're unable to confirm bed types at the time of booking.

On some ships, we also have triple cabins available for guests that are travelling as a group of three and would like to share a cabin. Triple cabins consist of a double bed and a single bunk, and we provide a 10% discount per person for these cabin types. In some Triple cabins, double beds may be slightly smaller to accommodate the additional single bed, meaning these cabins may not be suitable for travellers that require more space. If you would like to book a triple cabin please let us know and we can check availability when you enquire.

What is the difference between Above Deck and Lower Deck cabins?

At the booking stage, you will have the option to select a Lower Deck or an Above Deck cabin onboard the ship. Above Deck cabins are located on the main deck of the ship and may have internal or external access. The main benefit with the Above Deck cabins is that they are on the main or upper deck, easily accessible without having to use the stairs!

On some of the ships the Above Deck cabins are located on 2 levels, i.e. on the main deck and on a top deck. The Lower Deck cabins are situated in the hull of the ship and are accessed via stairs from the main deck down into the hull. The Lower Deck cabins are slightly more affordable than the Above Deck cabins, however they are often cooler and quieter in the evenings.

Please note: Above Deck cabins are either equipped with a window or a port hole, some of these will be fixed and cannot be opened. Lower Deck cabins are equipped with a port hole which cannot be opened. Each ship is unique and therefore the layout does vary from ship to ship.

I am travelling by myself. Is there a single supplement?

If you prefer to have your own cabin, you can pay a single supplement which is 50% of the per person website price. Please note single supplements are limited in their availability and are not applicable on special offers or discounted cruises. Alternatively, we can match you with another solo traveller of the same sex onboard the ship.

Is food included?

Breakfast and lunch or dinner is included every day. We don't include all meals, as we encourage you to try the local cuisine whilst you are out hiking during the day/in port for the evening. Our guide can offer some suggestions on the best places to eat. On some days, lunch may be provided instead of dinner if this fits in better with the day’s itinerary – the guide will advise you of this during the week. The breakfasts are simple continental style, with breads and spreads as well as a few cooked items. Lunch/dinner usually consists of 3 courses, with a soup/salad starter, meat or fish-based main course and fruit/cake for dessert, prepared by your onboard cook.

Can I bring food and drink onboard?

You cannot bring food and drink onboard, except for items that fill specific dietary requirements. Each ship has its own bar and drinks consumed onboard (including bottled water) must be purchased from here. You have unlimited access to the onboard water cooler during the salon opening times. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle with you onboard, and filling this up before the salon closes for the evening.

Is there time for swimming?

You’ll wake up every day and have breakfast on a boat, so there’s always an opportunity to enjoy the refreshing waters of the Adriatic.

Do you have to hike every day?

There is no obligation to hike every day – you can choose to have a day relaxing on the ship if you wish. Please be aware that the ship’s schedule is based around the day’s hiking itinerary and as such may not stay in some ports for long periods of time. You need a reasonable level of fitness to join the cruise due to the distances covered each day. Each cruise usually has a range of hiking abilities onboard and the guide will take this into account when tailoring the itinerary. If you’re looking for a different cruise experience, view our Croatia small ship cruises.

Are there any extra costs?

A local payment of 30 Euros per person is payable onboard your Sail Croatia Cruise. This payment incorporates port fees and tourist taxes throughout the week and is subject to change. Meals/water purchased on your hikes (unlimited access to the onboard water cooler is available during Salon opening hours. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle).

What type of luggage should I bring?

If you’re joining us from within Europe, we highly recommend limiting your luggage to one suitcase; however, we understand that this might not be possible for international travellers who are flying in just for the cruise, or on extended trips. In most cabins, you will be able to store bags under the bed; however, in the case of excess luggage, please ask check-in staff to give you additional information about possible storage.

How does Sail Croatia contribute to sustainable tourism?

Sail Croatia is committed to sustainable tourism and eco-friendly practices. To find out more on what we’ve achieved so far and our goals for a sustainable future, check out our sustainability report here.

What other cruises do you operate?

Sail Croatia offer cruise and yacht experiences to suit every travel style, including luxury Croatia Cruises for mature travellers, Explorer Cruises between Split and Dubrovnik, Navigator Party Cruises, and Active Cruises on our Cycle Croatia and Hike Croatia Cruise experiences.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

Yes, we highly recommend that you take out Travel Insurance that would cover cancellation, personal injury, medical expenses, personal liability & loss of personal property before you travel with us. It’s also important to check that your insurance covers all of the optional excursions you may be doing whilst onboard the cruise with us. Find out more about Travel Insurance here.

Please note: Once a booking is confirmed, there are fees applicable if you need to make a change to your booking or if you need to cancel. All fees can be found on our Booking Terms. Whilst we are unable to offer refunds, we can provide a letter confirming your cancellation with us which may aid your Travel Insurance claim, if required.

I have reduced mobility, is this trip right for me?

To make an informed decision about sailing with Sail Croatia, we recommend reading our Mobility Whilst Sailing page. This will provide you with valuable information regarding any mobility and accessibility concerns you may have.
