A Croatia holiday could be ideal for football lovers, according to one travel writer.Writing in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Oliver Cross said that he took in England's opening World Cup match in the historical surroundings of Dubrovnik. If you want to watch football in an easy-going atmosphere, travelling to Croatia could be the perfect option. Mr Cross writes: "When I asked the locals if they were following the World Cup, they just looked puzzled and explained that football wasn't really their game. "Since 2008 they had all, apparently, got terrifically interested in hand-ball (the sport not the foul) and water polo and were on the verge of becoming world champions, so football meant nothing at all to them." Croatia has now been eliminated from the World Cup, meaning that football fans can enjoy matches and take into the different culture of the area. It could be perfect for a family holiday, as there are also many historical attractions and diverting pastimes. ![]() |
