Travellers on a Croatia holiday might want to stop to sample the wines in Hvar, which is shaping
up to become a major wine region.A Croatian-born Californian winery owner recommended his top wine picks from the island, in the Croatian Times. Frane Franicevic, whose family comes from Sucuraj in Hvar, listed reds and whites that travellers to the small island must try. Dingac, Plavac Mali and Postup are among the best reds, according to the expert. He also said that he is "partial" to Posip. Croatian brands that are popular with local diners include Kozlovic, Bibich and Milos-Plavac. Sampling the region's wines could be the ideal way to relax after a cycling holiday. Alternately, picking some up on the way to enjoy on your Croatia sailing holiday might be a good idea. Mr Franicevic saysthat he has plans to open up a branch of his critically-acclaimed Sunce Winery on the island. This could be another step in Hvar's evolution into the wine region of Croatia. ![]() |
