A visit to the city of Split could prove popular with people on Croatia sailing holidays this summer
as the destination hosts a festival offering a glimpse of its past. For ten days from August 15th to 25th, a series of events will be held in Split to reflect the fact that the city was once a Roman province. Visitors on Croatia sailing holidays will have the opportunity to see people dressed in togas and tunics parading along the waterfront ahead of a carriage of the type that would have once carried the emperor Diocletian. At the centre of the celebrations will be Diocletian's Palace, a Unesco World Heritage site that was built at the turn of the fourth century AD. As well as taking in the historical sights, visitors to Split will be able to walk through the city's narrow streets to sample the mouth-watering Mediterranean foods being served up for the festival. Split is one of many coastal destinations that travellers can visit on a Croatia sailing holiday, along with Zadar, Dubrovnik, Makarska and others. ![]() |
