| Monday, 04 January 2010 12:42 |
Travellers planning Adriatic cruises this year have been encouraged to pay a visit to the island of Vis.Freelance journalist Wynne Crombie describes the destination as "a placid gem in the blue Adriatic". Writing for the Dallas Morning News, Ms Crombie reveals that her trip began with a tour to some of the island's "untouched" destinations. The traveller also provides details of some of the activities on offer to people who visit Vis during Croatia holidays, writing: "Tourists could have their pick: exploring nearby coves and caves, sailing, snorkeling and swimming. "Sunken ships from the 1866 war, plus submarines and an airplane or two, are also a great draw. The water is so clear, you can almost see the bottom." Ms Crombie also encouraged visitors to learn about the cultural heritage of Vis, which has been conquered by everyone from the Turks to the British over the centuries. The island features on a Croatia sailing holiday route that begins in Split and also visits destinations such as Korcula and Lastovo. ![]() |
