People with a passion for foreign cuisine can pay a visit to the port town of Opatija during a Croatia holiday this year to sample some regional specialties.The Croatian National Tourist Board recently described the destination as an "elegant spa town with a big foodie story". Visitors can head to the nearby village of Volosko, which is located just 15 minutes' walk away and is home to two of the best restaurants in the country, according to the tourism agency. The award-winning Le Mandrac serves a range of local foods and delicacies, offering tasting menus that change every day. Travellers can also pay a visit to Plavi Podrum before embarking on an Adriatic from Opatija to try some of the restaurant's 300 varieties of wine, 60 per cent of which is Croatian. Opatija serves as the starting point for a Croatia sailing holiday route that includes stopson the spectacular islands of Krk and Rab and the fascinating historic city of Zadar. ![]() |
