The Istria region is expecting an influx of travellers on Croatia holidays this month, according to reports.Denis Ivosevic, director of the Istria Tourist Board, said that a wave of incoming tourists would be welcome as the area has experienced a fall in visitor numbers this year. Figures for the first seven months of the year showed a total of 1.57 million visitors and 9.7 million overnight stays, down four per cent and five per cent respectively on the previous year, daily newspaper Vecernji List reported. However, in the last week in July, the number of people visiting Istria as part of a Croatia holiday was 12 per cent higher than the previous year. Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. Holidaymakers can visit the area before embarking on an Adriatic cruise from theport of Opatija to see the islands of Krk and Rab and the city of Zadar. ![]() |
