| Monday, 12 October 2009 16:40 |
One of the adventures on offer to people planning Adriatic cruises in the future is a visit to
the Northern Velebit National Park. The area was recently included in the EU's list of 22 European Destinations of Excellence (Eden) in tourism and protected areas. Located in north-west Croatia, the park is situated a few kilometres inland, providing an ideal opportunity for an excursion before travellers embark on their Adriatic cruises. It was included in the Eden list owing to its combination of two different natural environments - the coastal region and the mountainous area. Wildlife including bears and wolves are found in the park, which also features deep sinkholes and caves that give it "an unparalleled sense of multiplicity", according to the EU. Travellers who visit the park can admire viewsencompassing a number of islands that feature in Croatia sailing holiday itineraries, including Krk and Rab. These destinations can be visited as part of an Adriatic cruise that also stops in the city of Zadar. ![]() |
