Omis Guide
Omiš is the center of Omiš Riviera – a small town nestled on the mouth of river Cetina between Makarska and Split. If you've set out on an adventure this summer, then Omiš is where you want to end up! This beautiful costal town is located near the river Cetina Canyon and offers adrenaline-pumping activities to those willing and courageous enough to let go of their inhibitions and enjoy life!
Just as every other coastal town in Dalmatia, Omiš also has a rich history that goes back to Roman times. However, the town was at the height of its popularity and fame (actually, infamy) during the 9th, 10th and the 11th century when it was the home of notorious Almissa pirates.
These pirates, along with their brethren from the Neretvan region, were the scourge of the Adriatic Sea. People of Omiš are still proud of that period and why wouldn’t they be – at one point in history they had brought down the mighty Venetian Republic down on its knees!
Things to do in Omiš
Rafting In The Cetina Canyon
Cetina Canyon is unique in Croatia. The clear, icy waters of river Cetina rush through the gorges and you’re surrounded by beautiful nature at every single turn. You can take a boat up to Radmanove Mlinice, a popular picnic spot for families and tourists.
We offer this as an optional excursion. Please contact our reservations team for more details.
Zip Lining
Cetina Canyon is full of surprises so you will also find an aerial adventure park there. Zip line adventure will last for around two hours and you will get to soak in the beauty of your surroundings while hanging from a wire 200 meters above the canyon!
This is definitely not for the faint-hearted but if you’re looking for adventure don’t miss out on it. The entire experience takes two hours during which time you are enjoying pristine nature and zip lining at incredible speeds!
We offer this as an optional excursion. Please contact our reservations team for more details.
Mirabella & Fortica Fortresses
Two towering fortresses that are perched high up above the town were initially constructed by the corsairs as a means to defend themselves from foreign invaders, Venetians, and Turks at a later point in time. Mirabela is somewhat lower on the cliff face and it’s easily accessible to everyone.
However, if you want to enjoy the spectacular views of Dalmatian islands you will have to climb up all the way to Fortica. Fortica is higher up and you can expect to put in a bit more effort to get there. It is well-worth it as the view is spectacular!
Mountaineering & Rock Climbing
Omiš is surrounded by high peaks of Biokovo Mountain and one of the most exciting activities you could participate in is rock-climbing. There are ready-made tracks that lead up to several peaks.
However, both rock-climbing and mountaineering are dangerous and we strongly advise you to hire a professional guide and rent professional equipment before heading out. There are several places where you can rent quality climbing equipment in Omiš and you can also inquire about professional tour guides there.
