Learn to Sail FAQ'S

How long is the Learn to Sail Course?

This practical, hands on course is 7 days long, departing from and ending in Split.

When does the trip start and finish?

Check in is from 3pm in ACI Split Marina, with our team ready to welcome you with a drink! The tour ends in ACI Split Marina. We ask all our passengers to disembark by 8am to allow us time to clean the yacht before the next departure. Detailed directions to the marina will be emailed to you when you book your course.

Will the itinerary change?

Our number one priority is to ensure that we have safe and happy guests onboard. With this in mind, we may need to change the itinerary for a variety of reasons including weather, port availability and guest experience.

Will I receive a qualification on completion of this course?

This Learn to Sail course is for holidaymakers looking to learn sailing as a skill whilst on holiday and you will then be able to join as a confident crew member onboard a similar size sailing yacht in the future. No formal certification or qualification will be awarded on course completion, you will instead receive a certificate of participation and a record of the course content covered during the week.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

Each yacht has a unique design and most cabins have a double bed to accommodate 2 guests. Some yachts feature a bunk bed cabin which we reserve for solo travellers who will be matched up with another independent traveller of the same gender, while groups of friends sleep in double cabins.

Do the yachts have air-conditioning?

Due to the compact design of sailing yachts, air-conditioning is only available in the salon area of the yacht (not in the cabins).

Are bed linen and towels included?

Yes, towels are provided for showering. Please note these are for indoor use only and you will need to bring your own beach towel with you.

How much luggage can I bring onboard?

Due to limited storage space on the yacht, we kindly request that you avoid bringing excessive luggage. Excessive luggage refers to large suitcases, multiple bags, or oversized items that may hinder the available space and cause inconvenience for everyone on board.

Large suitcases will need to be stored before arriving at the marina. Weekly baggage storage is available near the main bus station arrivals area on the other side of the port.

Soft luggage (duffle bags or similar) is recommended as these bags are easiest to store onboard and don’t damage our yachts. A large suitcase is anything that would not fit in an overhead locker on a flight.

What is the food and drink situation?

Daily breakfast groceries are provided for guests to make their own breakfast, and a Welcome Dinner is also included in the price of your Learn to Sail week.

Additional food and drinks are not included, however you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks with you onboard. Each yacht is equipped with a self-contained kitchen, including a gas stove, fridge, oven and kettle. This allows you to cook throughout the week and pre-plan the food you’d like to eat for lunch at sea! We recommend provisioning prior to check-in and topping up your groceries throughout the week. In the evenings you'll have a wide variety of restaurants available at each town, and your Skipper will be happy to provide recommendations for dinner!

Are there any local payments that I need to be aware of?

A local payment of 30 Euros is payable at check-in and is applicable for all guests onboard the Learn to Sail course. This payment incorporates port fees and tourist taxes throughout the week and is subject to change.

How does Sail Croatia contribute to sustainable tourism?

Sail Croatia is committed to sustainable tourism and eco-friendly practices. To find out more on what we’ve achieved so far and our goals for a sustainable future, check out our sustainability report here. (link)

Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

Yes, we highly recommend that you take out Travel Insurance that would cover cancellation, personal injury, medical expenses, personal liability & loss of personal property before you travel with us. It’s also important to check that your insurance covers all of the optional excursions you may be doing whilst onboard the cruise with us. Find out more about Travel Insurance here.

Please note: Once a booking is confirmed, there are fees applicable if you need to make a change to your booking or if you need to cancel. All fees can be found on our Booking Terms. Whilst we are unable to offer refunds, we can provide a letter confirming your cancellation with us which may aid your Travel Insurance claim, if required.
