Croatia’s two main cruise and sailing hubs are Split and Dubrovnik. These cities are the primary gateways for most Adriatic itineraries thanks to their international airports, large harbours, well-equipped marinas and regular ferry connections.
Smaller harbours such as Hvar, Korčula, and Vis are also popular stops on Croatia cruises. They are known for their scenic harbours, historic towns, and island atmosphere.

Main Ports in Croatia
Split
Split is Croatia’s largest ferry and cruise port, located right beside the Old Town and waterfront promenade. The port is busy and well-connected, with ferries, catamarans, yachts, and small ships departing daily to the Croatian islands.
Most small-ship cruises dock directly along the Split Riva, West Coast, or nearby passenger terminals, all within walking distance of the city centre. The West Coast is one of Split’s main yacht and small ship areas, lined with waterfront bars, restaurants, and promenade views across the harbour.
Split Airport (SPU) is located around 25km away from Split Old Town, with transfer times typically taking 30 - 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis, private transfers, airport shuttles, and rideshare services are all widely available and easy to arrange.
If you have time before or after your cruise, Split is worth exploring beyond the harbour itself. Wander through Diocletian’s Palace, enjoy drinks along the Riva promenade, visit nearby beaches, or head up to Marjan Hill for panoramic views over the Adriatic. The city also makes a great base for island day trips and coastal dining.

Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is one of the Adriatic’s most iconic cruise ports and a major gateway to southern Croatia. Known for its medieval walls, limestone streets, and dramatic coastal setting, the city combines historic charm with modern cruise and marina facilities.
Most cruise and small ships dock in Gruž Harbour, located around 10-15 minutes from Dubrovnik Old Town by car or bus.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is located approximately 20km from the port, with transfer times between the Airport and the Old Town usually taking around 30 minutes. Taxis, private transfers, shuttle buses, and rideshare services are the most common transfer options.
A day in Dubrovnik is easy to fill before or after your cruise. Walk the famous city walls, explore the Old Town’s alleyways and cafés, take the cable car above the city, or spend the afternoon at a beach club overlooking the Adriatic. The city’s restaurants, bars, and coastal views make it one of Croatia’s most memorable cruise departures.

Secondary Ports in Croatia
Mainland Ports
Makarska
Makarska is a lively coastal harbour located between Split and Dubrovnik, known for its palm-lined promenade, beaches, and dramatic mountain backdrop beneath the Biokovo Mountains. The town has a relaxed but social atmosphere, making it a popular stop on sailing and small-ship itineraries along the Dalmatian coast. Smaller cruise ships and sailing vessels are able to dock close to the town centre, within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and the waterfront.
The closest airport is Split Airport (SPU), located around 1.5 - 2 hours away by road, depending on traffic and transfer type. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) can also be used for southern itineraries, which are approximately 3 hours away.

Trogir
Trogir is a historic harbour town located just north of Split, known for its UNESCO-listed Old Town, stone laneways, and marina-lined waterfront. Surrounded by medieval walls and connected by bridges to the mainland and nearby Čiovo Island, the town is easy to explore on foot and has a more relaxed atmosphere than nearby Split. Many yachts and small ships dock beside the town centre, making it easy to explore before or after a cruise.
Split Airport (SPU) is located only 10 - 15 minutes away, making Trogir a convenient coastal port in Croatia for arrivals and departures.

Sibenik
Sibenik is a historic coastal city set along a sheltered bay and river entrance on the central Dalmatian coast. Known for its stone architecture, fortresses, and local atmosphere, the city offers a quieter and more authentic feel compared to some of Croatia’s larger cruise destinations. The harbour sits close to the Old Town, with many smaller vessels docking within walking distance of restaurants, cafés, and the waterfront promenade.
The closest airport is Split Airport (SPU), located around 1 hour away by road. Šibenik is also a popular gateway to Krka National Park and nearby island sailing routes.

Zadar
Zadar is one of northern Dalmatia’s main coastal ports, known for its Roman history, island connections, and relaxed waterfront atmosphere. The city blends historic architecture with modern waterfront attractions, creating a lively but less crowded alternative to Croatia’s southern ports. Ferries, yachts, and small cruise ships regularly dock near the city centre, providing easy access to the Old Town and marina area.
Zadar Airport (ZAD) is located around 20 minutes from the port, making it one of Croatia’s easiest coastal cities to access. Visitors often spend extra time exploring the Sea Organ, Sun Salutation, and historic waterfront before or after their cruise.

Island Ports
Korčula
Korčula is one of Croatia’s most popular island harbours, known for its medieval Old Town, waterfront promenades, and relaxed island atmosphere. Most vessels dock within walking distance of the historic centre, making it easy to explore the town’s stone laneways, local wineries, and seaside restaurants before or after your cruise. Depending on the vessel size and season, ships may dock directly outside the Old Town walls or at the main ferry port located around 5-10 minutes away from Old Town.
Korčula does not have its own airport, with most travellers arriving via Split Airport (SPU). From Split, passengers can continue to the island by ferry or high-speed catamaran, with transfer times varying from 3 to 5 hours, depending on schedules and connections.

Vis
Vis is a quieter and more remote island harbour known for its natural beauty, secluded bays, and slower pace. Small ships and yachts commonly dock in either Vis Town or Komiža, the island’s two main harbour locations. Vis Town is known for its lively waterfront promenade and easy access to beaches and cafés, while Komiža offers a more traditional fishing village atmosphere on the western side of the island. The island is also a popular base for boat trips to the Blue Cave on nearby Biševo Island.
The main gateway to Vis is Split Airport (SPU), followed by a ferry or catamaran transfer from Split Port. Journey times vary from 4 to 5 hours, depending on the ferry service and seasonal schedules.

Hvar
Hvar is one of Croatia’s most iconic island harbours, famous for its lively waterfront, luxury yachts, and vibrant nightlife. Most small ships dock directly in Hvar Town’s harbour, placing visitors steps away from restaurants, bars, beach clubs, and the historic Old Town. Vessels may also dock in Stari Grad Port on the northern side of the island, one of Croatia’s oldest harbour towns and a common arrival point for ferries and larger vessels. Popular activities across the island include visiting the hilltop fortress, exploring the marina promenade, and enjoying sunset views over the Adriatic.
Hvar does not have its own airport, with access typically via Split Airport (SPU). From the airport, travellers continue to Split Port before taking either a high-speed catamaran to Hvar Town (around 2.5 hours total travel time) or a ferry to Stari Grad Port (around 4 hours total travel time depending on connections and schedules).
