Mooring Fees in Croatia - A Sailor's Guide

Croatia’s azure waters, quaint towns and perfect sailing conditions make it the ultimate sailing destination. If you’re planning on exploring the Dalmatian coast on a Private Yacht Tour or Yacht Charter, you’ll need to consider the cost of mooring fees when planning your vacation budget.

To give guests the freedom of a flexible itinerary, mooring fees aren’t included in the cost of a Private Yacht Tour. Guests are able to plan an itinerary that visits their must-see destinations and sticks within their budget. It also gives guests the freedom to change their plans…so if you’re enjoying the relaxed vibe and picturesque views at one destination, simply stay an extra day or two!

It’s always a good idea to arrive at check-in with a rough plan of the locations you’d like to visit, any points of interest and your mooring budget. Your experienced Skipper (who is also your local guide!), will help you to plan an itinerary that ticks all of the boxes and is within your budget.

When mooring in Croatia, you have four options to choose from:

Anchoring in Croatia

Anchoring is a great free mooring option that is ideal for spending 1 or 2 nights surrounded by nature. Croatia boasts countless safe & secluded bays that are perfect for anchoring, but it’s important to always check the weather in Croatia, as strong winds can develop quickly.

Other factors to consider are battery power, provisioning and freshwater supplies. If your yacht has a generator or solar panels, you’ll have greater flexibility to stay off-grid for longer. If your yacht doesn’t have a generator onboard, you will be limited to the size of your vessels batteries for power whilst on anchor. Generally, freshwater tanks will last 2-3 days before a refill is needed.

Mooring Buoys in Croatia

There’s a scattering of mooring buoys available throughout the Croatian islands. These buoys are privately owned and are often located in secluded bays, where you can pay for the convenience of a waterfront spot. In some instances, owners of the mooring buoys will also own the local restaurant, and will allow you to use their mooring buoy for free if you dine with them.

To explore the island, your Skipper will simply ferry you between the yacht and the island via tender boat.

Mooring buoys are located in a few destinations across central Dalmatia, and range from €45 - €75 per night. Your skipper will be able to advise where to find a mooring buoy, availability, the cost and the best way to reserve one.

Mooring in Croatian Towns

Some destinations allow you to moor directly on the main street, providing the option to step off your yacht and into the heart of a Dalmatian town. Soak up the atmosphere of the town, people watch from the comfort of your yacht or explore the many cafes, restaurants and supermarkets located a stone's throw away.

Whilst this option can be a little tight for space and is more expensive, many sailors find the convenience of being docked right in town worth it.

Marinas in Croatia

Marinas are the most expensive mooring option, however, they also offer the safest and most convenient access to facilities. Most marinas will have onsite cafes, restaurants, shower & toilet facilities, shore power and fresh-water refills for your yacht.

To strike the best balance when sailing in Croatia, we recommend a mixture of all mooring options. If you’re sticking to a tight budget, hiring a yacht with a generator will allow you to anchor (for free) more often. Similarly, choosing overnight locations that are a little further from marinas and towns will generally offer more affordable mooring options.

If you’re planning to stay at marinas during your holiday, the below table of estimated fees will give you a rough idea of what you’ll need to budget for. Simply find the location of the marina you wish to visit, and the size of your vessel to give you an estimated overnight cost.

Mooring Fees in Croatia

Mooring fees are based on the length of your vessel, the type of vessel and the location of the Marina. To get an estimated cost of mooring fees for your vessel, simply select your vessel size below. Vessel sizes can be found in the description of all Private Yacht Tour yachts.

*Additional fees of approximately €20 - €30 are charged for water, electricity and rubbish services. These fees are paid directly to the local town representative who visits your vessel
